Waxing Lyrical
 |
This series of 9 paintings is called "Lies" inspired by Sir Walter Scott writing in "Marmion" in 1808 "O what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!".
Imagine an expensive scarf made from scraps of dyed cashmere full of knots. It's the latest fashion must-have so you buy it, wear it and eventually wash it. But in the final spin, your scarf drops to bits and all you're left with is a load of mangled wool.
So what made you spend a lot of money on a trendy scarf that was actually a pile of fancy rubbish? Lies, joined up to make you think they're worth having until you try cleaning them and realize, too late, that you've been conned.
The biggest lies are naughty and not nice but coloured in a way to make you think they are! But here are some "Lies" that aren't naughty and are coloured in the nicest possible way.

Here's the web so knotted and tangled that all the white's got lost in joined-up swirls of colour.
